chapter 22As the days continued these was still no sign of Ferial, of where she had gone or what she had done. Stew, despite having completely recovered his powers and energy, still couldn’t locate her mind although he constantly wore himself out with the efforts. The others could do little more than sit by and hope that he would find her, the rest of the time they spent gathering food or wood for the fire that they left burning all night. They knew that they couldn’t wait much longer for her to turn up, for all they knew she was dead, and the prolonged silence from her supported this. Chapter 21The following morning arrived bright and clear, though the sun took a little longer to break through the leafy canopy that the trees created for them. The rain had long gone leaving no sign of having ever been there except the damp smell of clean earth. The fire had long gone out and yet there was no further members of the group missing. Stew slept deeply long after the others had awoken, and they were careful not to disturb him. Chapter 20Despite what Dove thought when she fled from the labartory dragging Tommy behind her, Dr Mendeor was not dead. He may well have a pair of scissors implanted deep in his back and barely missing his spine, but he was far from dead.
